Publishing news: New short stories and my debut collection, The House of Illusionists
I
am far, far overdue for a personal writing/publication update, I realize.
1. Short Story Publication in Lightspeed Magazine
In June, my latest fantasy story was published in Lightspeed Magazine. “When the Faerie King Toured the Human Realm” is about exactly what the title says. It’s also about social media fame, parasocial relationships, street food, and the very human need to feel that we belong to a story larger than ourselves. It is one of my favorite things that I have written, ever, and there’s a wonderful podcast version, narrated by Susan Hanfield, if you would rather listen than read.

2. Space Horrors anthology
Then just nine days ago, another publication of mine dropped in a very cool new anthology, Space Horrors: An Anthology of Horror Science-Fiction Stories, edited by the wonderful E.S. Magill. My tale, “The Space Roads,” is about long-haul cargo pilots in space and the eerie dangers they face while crossing the void of deep space. Dangers that may be external. . . or might be only in the mind. I am joined by some very cool people in this book and am very excited about it! You can buy it as either an e-book or in paperback at the link above. Check out the cool, retro-pulp cover!
3. My debut collection of short stories!!!
And finally, dearest to my heart of all. . . my debut collection of short stories, The House of Illusionists and Other Stories, is now available for pre-order. This book encompasses over a decade of my writing, ranging over fantasy, science fiction, and horror. These are short stories that use a fantastical lens to explore human relationships and passion in worlds both close and far from our own. The beautiful cover was designed in-house by Holly Lyn Walrath., and early editions have already been popping up at conventions where my publisher, Interstellar Flight Press, has had a table. The book officially drops November 3, and if you would like to learn more, you can check out the official book site here (you can also scan the QR code in the image below). I’ll be having an official book launch on November 3, and you can find out more about that at the official site, too!
